Why this recognition matters
Awwwards is an international venue that elevates solid online experiences. Projects are reviewed by professionals and users, looking at both expression and function. When our Trolltunga project received an Honorable Mention, it's not because something cries out loud, but because the whole plays: design, content, flow and performance all pull in the same direction.
It is valuable to our customers for two reasons. For one thing, Awwwards serves as an industry reference point: you need to deliver across disciplines, not just “look good.” Secondly, the criteria coincide with what it takes to succeed in practice — fast loading on mobile, clear structure, accessibility and content that actually helps the user to the next step. The recognition thus tells us that we have built something that can withstand everyday life, not just a pretty case.

How Awwwards rates
- Design: visual wholeness, composition and typography that lasts throughout the experience
- Ease of use: orientation, task flow and predictability for the user
- Creativity: idea and distinctiveness without losing grip on usability
- Contents: clarity, relevance, structure and language leading on
Honorable Mention is given when the overall impression is strong. It's a milestone that marks that the foundation is right.
The task we solved for Trolltunga
Trolltunga is both icon and responsibility. The website had to do two things at once: arouse the desire to travel and make planning and security easy. It sounds obvious, but requires hard priorities. We wanted nature to be the protagonist, but not at the expense of honest expectations of weather, length, equipment and season. We therefore chose a structure where planning, safety advice and ordering are visible from the first second — especially on mobile, where most users actually are.
Design and content choices
- Nature in the center: calm palette and air around the images, so that the terrain carries the style
- Clear Information Architecture: fewer choices, better choices; “Plan your trip”, “Security” and “Book” always close to your thumb
- Availability from start: contrasts, readable typography and clear focus markings
- Brief and human language: warmth in tone, precision in message, zero filler
- Performance in practice: slim components, optimized images and fast first view at low coverage
Why these choices work
We didn't start with 'how do we make this look spectacular' but 'how do we make it easy to succeed on tour'. The planning flow was built as a conversation with the user: what do you wonder first, what do you need afterwards, and what misunderstandings can we clear away early on. We put in clear intermediate steps, explained in simple words and moved everything that was rare or advanced out of the main race. It produces less cognitive load. When the brain spends less energy understanding the interface, it spends more on the decisions that actually matter -- about equipment, timing and route.
What we are most satisfied with
- Plan the trip flow who answer genuine questions in the correct order
- Editor-friendly modules that makes it quick to update without cracking the expression
- The double voice: since both the deadline and the supervisor; it says “come” but also “take it seriously”
The effect in everyday life
Users can find critical information faster, click around less, and complete more tasks on mobile. For the Trolltunga team, the modules mean that seasonal changes, weather adjustments and capacity can be communicated on an ongoing basis, without heavy production runs. The sum is fewer questions, fewer misunderstandings and better-prepared visitors.
The collaboration that made the difference
The professional content came from the source -- people who know the mountain, the seasons and the risk picture. Our job was to translate the domain knowledge into structure, text and interfaces that work with cold fingers and weak mesh. Fast sparring, testing along the way and short iterations allowed us to remove noise and lift what actually helps. When insight and product discipline meet, the experience becomes both clearer and safer.
A website is never “finished”
A website is a living resource, not a supply that is put on a shelf. We continue to work on:
- micro-improvements in copy and navigation where users pause
- even better loading times for edge zones of coverage
- adjustments in the modules so that new content can be published quickly and consistently
- data points that make us wiser on what people actually need before, during and after trip
Why it's important
The brand is evolving. The public is changing behavior. Seasons change. When the page is built on a robust system of modules, typography and hierarchy, it can withstand change without becoming uneven. This is how a digital product creates lasting value: through small, sustained improvements that remove friction and increase accuracy.
Brief summary
Honorable Mention for Trolltunga confirms that the groundwork has been done properly. Clear structure, human language and high performance provide an experience that both motivates and takes responsibility. We continue to build on that foundation—less noise, more right choices, and a side that lives with the brand.
